Special screening of ‘Dr. Ambedkar’ evokes good response in Hosur

A film on the life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution, evoked good response from the audience in Hosur on Sunday. The film, screened at Raghavendra Theatre on the Denkanikottai Road, attracted students, officials and members of Dalit associations in the district. The screening was organised by the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers’ and Artistes’ Association. More than 1,000 people viewed the film, said State Deputy Secretary of the Association Aadhavan Theetchanya. Association secretary N. Gopal, and president R. RLD leader Ajit Singh’s kin sentenced in Iranians dealing

Vikramaditya Singh, son-in-law of RLD leader Ajit Singh, has been sentenced to six months of home confinement by a US court and now faces deportation after he was caught in a federal sting operation selling military grade micro wave radios to Iran. Singh(34), a Arizona-based electronics dealer, was targeted by undercover agents of US Homeland Security in Philadelphia as a follow-up to a sting involving Iranian arms broker Amir Ardebili. Absconding SP MLA arrested in UP minister attack case

Absconding SP MLA Vijay Mishra, who was allegedly involved in last year’s attack on UP cabinet minister Nand Gopal Nandi, was today arrested by Special Task Force in Delhi, a senior officer said here. Uttar Pradesh government had announced an award of Rs 2.5 lakh on the arrest of Mishra, who has 62 cases, including 15 of murder and seven of attempt to murder, registered against him in Bhadohi, Allahabad and Mirzapur. Upper Caste People have attacked on Dalits and their houses at Tamaraikulam

Some people belonging to the upper caste have allegedly attacked Dalits and ransacked their houses at Tamaraikulam area in the district, according to police on Sunday. Cases have been registered against 46 people in connection with the case, police said, adding 10 Salits were injured during the incident which happened on Saturday. BSP starts naming candidates

The Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are more than a year away but the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party has already started announcing names of candidates. The party has finalised names for almost half of the 402 seats. Other parties, quite obviously, have not even initiated the process.
