The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ms. Mayawati in a letter written to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today termed the package announced for Bundelkhand as insufficient. She said that only Rs. 1595 crore had been sanctioned as additional central assistance for three years. In this way, only Rs.550 crore would be given to Uttar Pradesh per year. BSP won by-polls to 9 seats of the 11 assembly constituencies

Bahujan Samaj Party won by-polls to 9 of the 11 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, including Etawah, the home district of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
