Ensure safety of SC/ST schoolchildren: Govt

The state government has given strict instructions to district collectors to take necessary steps to ensure safety and security of children at residential schools run by ST and SC development department. “Clear directions may be given to all district authorities concerned as no untoward incident is acceptable in the schools after the government has taken all possible measures to maintain discipline there,” ST and SC development secretary Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra said in a recent letter to collectors. With more than 626 million people daily defecating in the open, India is on the verge of becoming the “global capital of open defecation”, an NGO said on Monday. MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj has assured to hold talks with the concerned to increase the amount of funds offered to SC/ST beneficiaries under health card schemes. The National Commission for Schedule Castes (NCSC) has told the Haryana police to add strict sections in the FIR against the police personnel allegedly responsible for the custodial death of a Dalit youth in Ambala and also get the probe shifted outside Ambala. A 36-year-old differently-abled dalit widow, was allegedly molested by a caste Hindu trio, who also abused her using her caste name, at Thoothukudi on Monday.
