SC, ST sub-plan Bill expected to make departures from AP law

The proposed legislation in Karnataka to accord statutory status to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes sub-plan, expected to make some significant departures from the law in Andhra Pradesh, is unlikely to be tabled in the current session of the legislature. Among the significant departures in the proposed Karnataka draft Bill from the Andhra Pradesh legislation is that any public servant will be liable for imprisonment up to six months for failure to implement the provisions under it. The veteran K K Kalavarkar, Dalit litterateur, playwright and theatre artiste has been unanimously selected as chairman of the taluk thirteenth Kannada Sahitya Sammelan that will be held at Siddapur that lies on the foothill of Balebare Ghat, near here on Sunday December 8. ‘Raise health insurance limit to ` 50,000′

MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj has assured to hold talks with the concerned to increase the amount of funds offered to SC/ST beneficiaries under health card schemes. Speaking after distributing the health card benefits to SC/ST beneficiaries within CMC limits, the MLA said the current amount of Rs 30,000 offered under health insurance scheme is totally insufficient and measures will be taken to raise the amount to Rs 50,000.
