MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj has assured to hold talks with the concerned to increase the amount of funds offered to SC/ST beneficiaries under health card schemes.
Speaking after distributing the health card benefits to SC/ST beneficiaries within CMC limits, the MLA said the current amount of Rs 30,000 offered under health insurance scheme is totally insufficient and measures will be taken to raise the amount to Rs 50,000. He also lamented that the livelihood of the SC/ST community people is underdeveloped. Officials should work sincerely for the upliftment of their living conditions.
The MLA said elected reps and officials should convene a meeting comprising of SC/ST people, and take a note of their problems and set the programmes accordingly. As many as 4,049 BPL cards were distributed in Udupi assembly limits in four months. Another 3,000 BPL cards are ready for distribution. Madhwaraj also urged the SC/ST community people to go for BPL cards if they are eligible for it.
As many as Rs 3.98 crore has been distributed for the year 2013-14 under health insurance scheme to SC/ST beneficiaries within CMC limits. The health card is valid in as many as seven hospitals across Udupi including KMC, Manipal. [deccanherald]
