Manual scavengers’ children listed under disadvantaged group

The government has decided to include children of manual scavenger under the disadvantage group for facilitating their education in private unaided schools. “The management of private unaided schools will admit such children within 15 per cent of seats earmarked for children belonging to the disadvantaged group. They will also prepare plan for such children with regard to their coverage in special training,” said School and Mass Education Department in a notification. SP supporters damage Mayawati’s statue in Lucknow

SP supporters  damaged a statue of sister  Mayawati at the Ambedkar Park in Lucknow’s Gomtinagar area. More than 200 Indian girls whose names mean “unwanted” in Hindi have chosen new names for a fresh start in life. A central Indian district held a renaming ceremony Saturday that it hopes will give the girls new dignity and help fight widespread gender discrimination that gives India a skewed gender ratio, with far more boys than girls. The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has taken suo motu cognizance on a media report alleging that a dalit boy, A. Vasanthakumar, of Chakkiliya community residing at Nallichetty Palayam village in Tamil Nadu was thrashed for fetching water from public tap.
