A ray of hope seems to be emerging for homebuyers of Noida Extension now that farmers have decided on a settlement with the Greater Noida Authority. On Wednesday, hundreds of farmers met with the Authority officials and agreed to not move the Supreme Court once their demands were met.
The Authority, on its part, has agreed to most of the farmers’ demands that include settling abadi-related disputes and undertaking developmental works in their villages. The Authority has also agreed to provide educational, healthcare and sports facilities in these villages.
However, a splinter group of farmers continues to remain unhappy with the ‘package’ being offered to them. The Authority says that it will continue to woo these farmers. Meanwhile, the process of disbursal of compensation in six villages started on Friday.
Officials explained that they are going to cover all the villages in the area in the next month. Camps will be held to invite the farmers to submit their land documents for verification.
On Friday, officials took rounds of Bisrakh, Roja Yakubpur, Itehda, Haibatpur, Aimnabad and Maicha. “We went to each village and asked the farmers to get their land papers and submit them to us for verification so that we can the compensation disbursement process. We will start distributing cheques to farmers in the next few days,” said an official.
Authority officials will also visit other villages of Greater Noida besides talking to farmers from the 38 villages who had sought relief from the Allahabad High Court. [TOI]
